Weighty Issues

Sooo.... A new year is upon us.

As I begin to ponder what I want to accomplish this year, I turn inward. I want to lose weight, no, I NEED to lose weight. But I also want to make my life healthier overall. My goal is to not look at changing my eating habits (which are horrible) as a temporary fix, but something to shape and modify for the better for a lifetime.

I also want to incorporate exercise into my everyday life. If I have the time to watch TV every night, I have the time to exercise.

Mike and I went to California for Thanksgiving. We flew. I guess my "A-ha" moment was when I couldn't get the seatbelt on the plane fastened. I cried the whole flight. (The weird thing was, that I got it fastened on both of our flights on the way home.) Anyhoo, it was a horrible moment.

Mike and I are also trying to have a baby. I have PCOS (which doesn't help with the weight gain OR the baby making). It will also be a LOT healthier for me (and baby) when I do get pregnant.

So, I am putting it all out there. My heart is on my sleeve, I am sharing this with all who read this and will be updating my blog with my progress. I really would like to hear from others who are dealing with the same thing.

Consider this my "Before" picture, people!!!!!

Tammy - Ooooohhh we are all there with ya!

There is a great FREE website to join. It is: www.sparkpeople.com

It is totally free, no gimmick, and it focuses on how to do it healthy.

There are tons of tools to track everything you eat. You can follow their plan or put in your own food - just stay within a certain calorie range per your weight loss goal. You also track your fitness. They even have demo videos to help you know how to do different exercises and will make a plan for you.

There are tons of teams to join - where people with your own likes/dislikes, age group, even LDS people - and they are all on the same journey - and when you join in the challenges and message boards, you get friends and motivation. It's a bunch of fun. Last year I lost 50 pounds, I've gains some of it back and am starting again this new year.

My user name is "think2bfit" on sparkpeople. I have a page on the site if you'd like to check it out or need support.

Bottom line is the tools help you change to a healthy lifestyle - not a diet.. And it is FREE - what is better then that?? You will love it. Sorry for the novel ;)..
Good Luck!

Hey Tammy! Good for you! I'm doing something similar, and I briefly mentioned it on my blog. If you ever need anyone to go walking with call me-I have a hard time going during the day because I can't take the 2 kids together, and Rich is always working. But if you ever want to go early in the morning or late at night let me know-I'm usually available (and I'm always nervous about walking alone after dark). And I'd love the company. Plus-I'm good at chasing stray dogs away. Good luck!

Update us on your progress please! (That's the best way to keep it up!) I also wanted to mention that you should be careful about something... You said you wanted to make *lifestyle changes*. So be sure you don't try to measure your lifestyle changes with *diet measuring sticks*. Know what I mean? Lifestyle changes occur gradually and eventually will make you a healthier person. Diets make your body go into a drastic emergency mode (which leads to rapid weight loss). Don't think because you haven't lost weight that you aren't doing a good job on your goal. Instead, think of the lifestyle changes you have implemented and stuck with since you started!

Let me know if you want someone to continue to pester you to keep you on track. I make a great pest! :)

Good luck!!
