The story of America's quest for freedom is inscribed on her history in the blood of her patriots. ~Randy Vader
My 11th grade history teacher would give a presentation every year as we were learning about WWII. He would put on a Naval uniform and role play as if he were a character aboard the U.S.S. Arizona on December 7th, 1941 when Pearl Harbor was bombed. It was a turning point in my life. I had really never given much thought to the men and women in the military until this class. I cried during the whole presentation. After he was done, he urged all of us to visit any war memorial or veterans and thank them for their sacrifice and service to this country.
I did just that. I went to the Vietnam Memorial in Sacramento. (the only war memorial at the time) and as soon as I stepped foot in there, I sobbed. It was so powerful. To really have a grasp that loved ones died in war. It became real to me. I still get weepy thinking about it.
I love my country and honor those who have given the ultimate sacrifice to ensure our freedom.
Have a safe and happy Memorial Day Weekend... and please take a moment to remember.
Love,
Tammy

This was a lovely tribute, Tammy.
I don't think we all fully grasp the price that was paid for us to enjoy our freedom today.
Great post. And, I, too, get weepy when I see the flag or think about the sacrifices made by men and women to ensure my freedom.
Beautiful post, thank you :)
That was a very cool photo---I have seen some neat pictures from bloggers posting about Memorial Day. and yes, we do need to be humbled and remember those sacrifices
